Abstract Induction and screening of Gardenia jasminoides callus for croin production were investigated. When the leaves were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 1mg/L 2,4-D and 0.25 mg/L 6-BA at 25℃ under 16 hours light with the intensity of 31.74 umol/m2s per day, the induction rate was 100% after 15 days. When the seeds were cultured on MS medium supplemented with 0.5mg/L 2,4-D and 0.25 mg/L in dark for 15day, the induction rate was 100%. By eyesight and HPLC methods, one callus line (seed4) which contained 0.348mg /g crocin and would not brown was selected from 90 lines.
