Abstract Lignin is a kind of important macromolecular organic material inside plant with biology functions like sustaining, protecting, transporting and so on. Whereas the lignin has negative effect on utilizing the plant resource in some areas, such as resulting in severe environmental pollution in the paper making and reducing the digestibility of silage grass. Regulating of lignin content through gene engineering plays important roles in environment protection and economy , and it has become an international hot issue. In the recent years,promising progresses have been made in this field. The progress of recent research on the lignin biosynthesis is introduced in this paper. The hot area of the new progresses on the methods and synthesis enzymes of regulation of lignin content were presented. Meanwhile, some problems needed to research are suggested and the developments are forecasted from now on.
